Motivational Minute #163: Finishing NaNoWriMo Starts with the Belief That You Can

Tomorrow, National Novel Writing Month kicks off! Our fearless leader, Racquel Henry has come in the nick of time to deliver us a minute (two, actually!) of motivation on Writer’s Atelier TV!

(Psst! Are you a fellow Wrimo? Great news! Our videos will be NaNo-focused all November long! Subscribe to our YouTube channel and ring the bell to be sure you never miss an upload. If you aren’t participating in NaNoWriMo this year, many of these tips will still apply to a busy writer’s life!)

But today, Racquel wanted to share her favorite NaNoWriMo tip as a multi-year winner. There is a lot of info out there—some of it from us—about how to win NaNo and how to up your word count, but not as many people are talking about the mindset needed to secure the win.

Changing her mindset and believing she could actually finish was the shift Racquel needed. That means telling yourself that you can write 50,000 words in a month, and you can finish your book. Racquel has an entire podcast on mindset for writers if you’re interested in learning more practical tips and other writers’ success stories on developing a healthy, productive mindset for your writing life.

And mindset is all about being intentional and self-reflective. There is no better way to practice during NaNoWriMo than downloading our free November Novel Planner! We’re also hosting free virtual write-ins with special guest authors, and we have our free online community inside our private network you can join to remain inspired while fostering relationships with fellow writers who will cheer you on.

Happy NaNoWriMo, and happy writing!

If you want inspiration offline, have you heard that Racquel has written a mini book of affirmations for writers? It’s available in our shop!

We’d love to have you involved in our writing community! Thanks for everything!
