5 Ways the Write Brave Challenge Will Boost Your Creativity

We’ve officially entered our Write Brave Challenge era here at Writer’s Atelier! In case you missed it, on Monday, August 19, we invited all of our Write Brave Challenge participants to post their intentions and daily goals for all to see.

Now, the official Announcement Day may have passed, but it’s not too late for you to jump in! Below are just a few of the perks of joining the Write Brave Challenge for free this year, which starts September 15 and ends October 15.

But first, what is the Write Brave Challenge?

The Write Brave Challenge is a free 30-day writing challenge where a writer sets a daily goal in order to achieve a specific intention at the end of those 30 days. 2024 is its inaugural year, and the challenge will take place between September 15 and October 15. You can learn more by clicking here!

Way #1: You’ll have new writing prompts to play with.

We’ve been providing one-word writing prompts during 30-day challenges for years now, but we’ve never provided this many all at once! As part of your Write Brave Challenge Participant Kit, you’ll get 90 one-word writing prompts—which are presented as 30 rows of three—to help you overcome writer’s block. If you break down the numbers and use the presentation to guide you, you can take multiple different approaches:

  • Choose one prompt a day from each row of three to inspire your writing
  • Attempt to include all three words into your writing for the day
  • Ask the virtual assistant of your choice or use random.org to choose a number between one and 90 to choose a prompt

Way #2: You’re going to get lots of dedicated writing time.

Creativity is like a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it gets. Naturally, by making an effort to hit your daily goal for 30 days in a row, you’ll be regularly exercising the creative side of your brain.

We get that finding the time to write can be difficult, but it is worth the headache to see that creative muscle growth!

Way #3: It’s the perfect opportunity to experiment.

A 30-day writing challenge like this one—in my humble opinion—is a great excuse to switch things up! You have a set amount of time that isn’t so long that you won’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, but isn’t so short that you don’t have enough data to draw conclusions.

How can you switch things up? Here are a few ideas:

  • Try with new writing rituals
  • Diverge from your regular genre to see if a pen name would be worth investing in
  • Experiment with different mediums

Way #4: You’ll be joining a community of like-minded writers who’ll cheer you on.

And support can make all the difference! Within our group coaching and accountability program, The Write Gym, we’ve seen writers finally finish drafts, find the confidence to return to the page after a block, and achieve scores of other goals. Part of the magic of The Write Gym—and of the Write Brave Challenge—is that you and your fellow participants are in it together. You may have completely different backgrounds and goings-on, but you all love to write and you all could use some words of encouragement or a fresh perspective every now and again to push you out of your creative comfort zone.

Way #5: Completing the challenge will build confidence (which will motivate you to get more creative).

It’s a beautiful cycle: success will boost your confidence, which encourages you to tackle new objectives, and your optimism will help you get to the finish line, and that success will boost your confidence, and so on.

And, hey, even if you don’t achieve your original intention—if you fall short of your aim to write 30 short stories and wind up with only 17, as an example—then you will have still made progress and networked with other writers! I have only “succeeded” one out of maybe five attempts at 30-day challenges, but I would not be where I am today without the amazing communities I met and the projects I tackled along the way. The same will be true for you, too.
