Paige’s memory has let her down in Motivational Minute #84 on Writer’s Atelier TV.
This week, Paige can’t find the thing for her sewing machine. (You know, the thing! We all know the thing of which she speaks, right? Swell. Let’s move on.)
Like a lot of creative types, Paige gets frustrated when she can’t find a missing piece because that can prevent her from moving forward with her project, be it a new blouse or a new short story.
We require certain tools to finish and even start projects. And when it turns out that we are responsible for this mess-up, you can feel a little frantic and frustrated while running around the house looking for the thing.
Paige has no panacea for this problem. You can’t make a wish, cast a spell, or spin around three times singing “Oh, Where is My Hairbrush?” by Larry the Cucumber, and expect the thing to mystically appear. But she can assure you that this happens to everyone.
Does that make it any less frustrating? No. It doesn’t.
But take this as a reminder to stay calm. Take a deep breath, take a break, or take the initiative to ask a friend to help you look. Retrace your steps. If it’s a note or even a whole scene you misplaced, know that if it’s worth its salt, it will come back to you. It may come back to you even stronger.
Best of luck in finding the thing! Paige is going to keep looking for the thing for her sewing machine.
Happy writing!
