As an editor and writing coach, I get a ton of questions from writers and one of the most common ones is: Where can I find a critique partner? Finding someone who can give you constructive feedback can be a tough process. However, once you find the right person, they can help you make progress on your manuscript. So where do you find critique partners?
1. Local writing communities.
Try looking for writing associations or groups in your area via Google and meetup.com. Writing groups often have meetings you can attend monthly or weekly, even virtually. Writing events hosted by libraries and independent writing centers are great places as well.
2. Writing conferences.
Attending writing conferences can be another great place to meet other writers. Since these events happen less frequently and writers might be from various places, it might be a tad harder to find a critique partner. Still, if you find someone you mesh well with, you don’t need to live close by to be critique partners.
3. Facebook groups.
Facebook groups are chock full of writers. Writer’s Atelier has an online community, and we’d love to have you. Proceed with caution, however. While Facebook groups can be utilized to find critique partners, it’s still the Internet and you don’t know who is behind the screen.
