The Write Place #47: Denise N. Wheatley

My writing process is ever-changing. Where I write oftentimes depends on the time of day or my word count goals. If it’s early, and I’m shooting for a marathon session, I’ll write in bed (despite owning a desk—LOL!). If it’s later in the day and I’m working toward a two or three hour session, I’ll stretch out on the couch while catching the last bits of daylight.

When it comes to writing, I’m all about comfort. I enjoy being surrounded by books, pillows, a furry blanket and iced tea. I love working in well-lit rooms and having the television on in the background. The volume is always low, and I’m usually watching the Investigation Discovery channel or streaming Dateline.

One thing I seldom do is write in public. There are too many distractions and I’m too nosey to just focus on my computer. So I prefer writing at home, which means maintaining a space that’s both peaceful and inspiring.

About the Author

Denise N. Wheatley is a lover of romance, happy endings and the art of storytelling. Her first novel, I WISH I NEVER MET YOU, was published by Simon & Schuster in 2004. She has since traditionally published over twenty novels and novellas, including contemporary, suspense and medical romances. She strives to create characters who are strong, colorful and relatable, and tell entertaining stories that embody matters of the heart.

She’s currently writing for Harlequin Intrigue, Harlequin Medical Romance and Tule Publishing. Two of my holiday novels, LOVE AT THE ICICLE CAFE and CHRISTMAS IN FULL BLOOM, have been optioned for film. Fun fact: She has also written several steamy novels and novellas for eXtasy Books.

She received a B.A. in English from the University of Illinois at Chicago, the city where she was born and raised. When she’s not sitting behind my computer, you can find her in a movie theater, at home reading a romance novel, watching true crime television or chatting on social media.
