Motivational Minute with Racquel Henry #81: Writing Time is Not Negotiable

Our founder Racquel Henry is back again this week on Motivational Minute #81 on Writer’s Atelier TV!

Have you made your writing time non-negotiable? That is to say, have you carved out time to write every day—time that you guard against life’s many demands? This, like everything, is easier said than done. But it can be done!

To get the words in, you first need to look at what the day ahead of you holds. Make note of any and all obligations to which you’ve already committed. There is writing time hiding in your schedule. To find it, you may need to wake up a little earlier, go to sleep a little later, or even write on your phone between activities and action items.

Racquel swears by writing for twenty minutes every day. That may not sound like a lot of time, but over the course of a year, daily twenty-minute writing sessions translates to over 120 hours. It adds up!

One thing Racquel does to keep herself on track—and that you may want to try—is setting multiple reminders to go off throughout her day. When that last reminder goes off at 11:30PM, if she hasn’t written for the day, she knows she has to drop whatever she’s doing and get the work done. Again, it really adds up!

Go forth and find those twenty minutes of writing time. You can do it!

Happy writing!
