Motivational Minute with Racquel Henry #156: Don’t Let Anyone Talk You Out of Your Writing Dreams

Racquel Henry returns to deliver another pep talk this week, in a one-minute video.

Racquel saw a video the other day where the creator mentioned that if you want to quit your day job to write books, you’re setting yourself up for failure.

Her response to that is this:

If you have the dream to write books for a living, don’t let anyone tell you that’s not possible. Whatever you want your career to be, it can be.

The creator was almost certainly meant well. They probably thought they were trying to present the realistic side of things. And a level of realism is often needed. But we have to be really careful about that word, realistic.

The people who are making it or whoever your role model is—they’re doing so because they dared to dream unrealistically. At the root, they believed in themselves.

Would Racquel (or anyone) recommend just up and quitting your day job? No. But she would encourage you to come up with a plan. Watch what the successful authors are doing. Learn from them. Educate yourself about the industry. Experiment and come up with your own strategy. Because it’s possible.

Be unrealistic. Believe in yourself. And don’t let anyone else get inside that talented, wonderful head of yours.

Happy writing!
