Paige Lavoie encourages us to stop and smell the roses—both metaphorical and literal—in Motivational Minute #125 on Writer’s Atelier TV.
Just yesterday, Paige went outside and was a little amazed because everything in her yard was in bloom. But she might not have noticed that if she hadn’t taken the time to look.
Take Paige’s key lime bush for example. You might not even realize that it’s a key lime bush at all until you step a little closer and spot the fruit.
When we’re writing, we have to take a minute to set the scene—to think about what our characters are seeing. Sometimes it’s really helpful to take a look around and really zoom in on those details.
Watch our video below around the 0:45 mark. Do you see all those bees there? You could easily have described this in your prose as an overgrown plant, but no—it’s actually dill that’s sprouting flowers, and the bees are buzzing around and pollinating.
Think about those details this week. Zoom in.
Happy writing!
