Paige Lavoie is getting really honest with us in Motivational Minute #116 on Writer’s Atelier TV.
At the beginning of November, she was not only going to participate in National Novel Writing Month, but also make a video every single weekday over on our YouTube channel. During the week of Thanksgiving, Paige didn’t quite meet that goal.
So Paige wanted to formally apologize for failing to keep her promise. She could make a million excuses about how Thanksgiving was way busier than she thought it was going to be, but sometimes, things just go wrong. Many scripts and skits were thought out, but they didn’t make it to the small screen.
Paige hopes that if you, too, failed to meet your own expectations by not writing 50,000 words during NaNoWriMo that you not punish yourself. She herself got called out for such behavior after starting slow, staying slow, and not finishing NaNoWriMo.
She liked the story and has plans to do more with it. Nevertheless, Paige was mean to herself because she didn’t meet her goal. She wouldn’t let herself buy a book she’s been looking forward to reading, The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black, because she didn’t feel she deserved it yet.
That was when one of Paige’s friends told her to cut that out! That’s not fair! And you know what? That friend was right.
Paige hopes that, if you did win NaNo, you’re taking the time to celebrate your achievement. But even if you didn’t, you should cherish the words you’ve written so far. Cherish every paragraph, every sentence, every character.
Happy writing! And have yourself some happy holidays!
