At nearly the halfway point of NaNoWriMo, our founder, Racquel Henry is back with another Motivational Minute on Writer’s Atelier TV!
Writing 50,000 words in a month is no easy task. It requires discipline and an ability to tap into your creativity on demand. So what should we do when we’re losing steam?
Racquel’s first tip is to seek out writing prompts. As you know, we have writing prompts posted daily on our Instagram grid and weekly here on our blog! You can also find them in the pages of our November Novel Planner. But if you’re in need of other sources of inspiration, Racquel recommends checking the following for more prompts:
- The NaNoWriMo forums
- What If? by Anne Bernays and Pamela Painter
- Your favorite writing websites
Her second tip is starting a word war with your friends! A word war, if you haven’t heard the term before, is a type of writing sprint where you challenge another person to see who can get the higher word count within the allotted time frame. Usually, the only prize is bragging rights, but if you want to make it more interesting, you can place a bet on who can win the best two out of three rounds, and the loser has to complete some sort of task for the other—like washing their car, or what have you. If you have any kind of competitive streak, this can really boost your word count!
No matter what you word count is today, don’t let yourself give up on your WIP!
Happy writing!
