Motivational Minute #172: Love Your Messy Writing

Spring is in the air, and our fearless founder, Racquel Henry has returned for another Motivational Minute on Writer’s Atelier TV!

This week on our Insta, we’re focusing on being proud of our writing even when you’re writing a messy draft. Racquel was working on her own messy draft—her NaNoWriMo project—and feeling frustrated with it.

But what Racquel did instead of give up is remember what the end result will be. Once she finishes her revisions, she’ll come to a point where she’s once again proud of her work, and the cycle will begin anew.

Then Racquel wondered why she couldn’t be proud of her work now. Yes, it might be messy, and it might not feel like her best work, but at the end of the day, it’s a finished draft! She wrote an entire book in a month’s time! That’s something to be celebrated, too.

You don’t have to wait until you’ve crossed the finish line to be proud of all you’ve done so far. And what’s so great about choosing to love your messy writing is that it only creates more positive feelings to associate with your work, and that’s a beautiful thing.

Happy writing!
