Motivational Minute #171: Pause and Remember You’re a Great Writer

It’s another week, and another opportunity to make the most of the time we can dedicate to writing. Welcome to Motivational Minute #171 with our fearless founder, Racquel Henry!

We’re revisiting an old quote on our Instagram this week: “Pause, take a deep breath, and remember you’re a great writer.”

Lately, Racquel feels like she’s been having a little bit of a hard time with believing in herself and her writing. Once she did pause and take that deep breath, she realized there were a lot of outside factors that were affecting her mindset.

One of them was social media. Racquel fell into the trap of comparing herself to other writers and where they were in their career, as so many of us do from time to time.

The solution—the only solution—is to step back and refocus on the joy that writing brings us. It does us no good to perseverate over who looks to be “ahead” of us in separate writing journeys. Each one of us has a unique gift. Each one of us has a unique way of storytelling. And there are people who will connect with the way you tell stories. Some of us might be slower to find those readers, but we will find them.

Have faith, and don’t forget to take those deep breaths.

Happy writing!

  1. Thank you, Raquel, for your motivational minute(s). I’m new to this community and will s-l-o-w-l-y find my way in to greater connection. I’m writing a memoir, managing my substack site, writing poetry, and traveling out of the country soon. All the best to you. Love the new LOOK! Keep writing and being.
