This probably won’t apply to the traditionally published, but to the indie published, a cover artist can be one of the most important marketing decisions you make for your book. The right book cover will telegraph to your readers exactly what your book is about, what kind of person will most likely enjoy it, and encourage them to peek inside just to see what lurks underneath the pretty colors and typography. We have a whole blog post about great book cover design!
The wrong book cover, however, can almost guarantee you far fewer clicks on your books than it deserves.
If you want a great cover, you’ll first need a great cover artist. Recently, we asked the members of The Write Gym who designs their covers, and they were willing to share with us!
“I have seven (I think?) very talented cover artists. Each of my series has its own, and each publisher has its own.” (Cover shown is by Chris Kridler of Sky Diary Productions.)
— Kerry Evelyn, author of Love on the Ice
“My cover artist for my World’s Fair sweet historical romances is Angelique of Angelique’s Designs through Misadventure Press. The rest of my covers are all by me!”
— Megan Fuentes, author of In Charleston With You
“Maria Spada. And I’ve done covers myself (I have the design skillset).”
— Mira Monroe, author of Magick
