About the Workshop:

A novel, according to Merriam-Webster, is a “narrative that is usually long and complex and deals especially with human experience through a usually connected sequence of events.” A connected sequence of events sounds simple enough. In execution, it is anything but. A successful scene requires specific skills that can take novelists a lifetime to master. In this one-hour in depth workshop we will explore:

• Scene types and their functions.

• The essential elements every strong scene needs.

• What set-piece scenes are in movies and how to use their structure to strengthen your novels.

• Tools for developing and vetting strong scenes from the start, so your revision time can be cut in half.

About the Instructor:

Amy Christine Parker earned her degree in elementary education at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, and then proceeded to try out many different jobs, including collectible doll maker, fondue waitress, and inner-city schoolteacher. It wasn’t until she became a mom and began making up bedtime stories for her children that she finally realized what she was meant to do. Now Amy writes full-time from her home near Tampa, Florida, where she lives with her husband, their two daughters, and one ridiculously fat cat. She is the author of the novels, GATED, ASTRAY, and SMASH & GRAB. Visit her at amychristineparker.com.
