Motivational Minute #193: You Are Not Failing

Can you believe it’s almost August? Ready for autumn or not, Racquel Henry is back with a Motivational Minute to uplift the end of July 2024!

Racquel is getting ready to go to a book signing in Anaheim, CA, and as happens to even the best of writers, she was feeling a little panicked. Impostor syndrome was rearing its ugly head. This event was going to have several authors Racquel admires and who are more “successful” (we bear in mind, of course, that success means different things to different people), and that will make anybody nervous.

Naturally, Racquel talked to her sister, Natalie of Pretty Peacock Paperie. Both Henry sisters have the gift of wisdom, and this time, it was Natalie who reminded Racquel that it doesn’t matter if you’re not as far along in your writing journey as you’d like to be. Everybody starts somewhere, and everybody progresses at their own pace.

Prepare yourself for this bombshell: even the authors you most admire—the ones you believe to be at the top of the game—are likely feeling impostor syndrome, too, and they also don’t feel like they’re where they ought to be.

It’s so easy to forget the mountains we’ve climbed because they’re already behind us, and most of the time, we’re staring at the mountains still to climb in front of us. But not being where we want to be in our writing journey is not synonymous with failure!

Racquel’s chat with Natalie inspired her to share that advice over on WA’s Instagram. What will it inspire you to do?

Happy writing!
