Motivational Minute #190: Allow Space for Writing Mistakes

Happy June, and welcome back to another Motivational Minute! This week on the channel and on our Instagram, our founder, Racquel Henry is talking about a not-so-fun topic: being wrong.

When you’re a writer, there’s a lot that you’re going to get wrong. Sometimes you’ll get things wrong in your manuscript—like grammatical errors, plot holes, or timeline switcharoos—and sometimes you’ll get things wrong in your writing career.

Naturally, Racquel was reminded of this by events in her own life. As she talked about in the previous Motivational Minute, Racquel recently opened a manuscript completed two years ago to discover that it needed more work than she remembered. This is, in a way, good news because it means Racquel has grown as a writer.

It’s tough to see that bright side when you’re in the middle of a particularly messy round of revisions, but Racquel wouldn’t let how much work she had ahead get her down. She’s not afraid of the mistakes she made in the past, and she’s not afraid of the mistakes she’s going to make.

Why? Because the trick is to keep trying, writer. As long as you keep trying, then you’ll eventually get it right. It will all work out in the end.

Happy writing!
