Motivational Minute #176: Writing Lessons From Babies

Feeling overwhelmed by the work in front of you, writer? Then take a breath, take a sip of your drink, and let the wisdom flow from our fearless founder, Racquel Henry, straight to you in this week’s Motivational Minute!

The title of this may throw you off a little, but it goes perfectly with the motivational quote we posted to our Instagram this week: “Small writing wins are also big writing wins.” (And, quick side note, we loved reading about our followers’ wins! Keep those kinds of comments coming, please!)

Back to the babies, possibly the most adorable analogy we’ve used on the blog so far. Babies take baby steps. And before they can even take their first steps, they first have to learn to crawl, and then to pull themselves up to a standing position. They manage to do these Herculean feats by first failing at what they want to do over and over again. With every attempt, they learn something new, and they get a little bit closer to getting what they want.

And the same concept applies to our writing lives. We have to take micro-steps—writing a hundred words one day, or only editing a page or so, or going back to a beloved writing craft book and reviewing—in order to achieve our biggest goals. Those steps add up! Don’t forget that!

We hope your week is filled with lots of writing wins, big and small!

Happy writing!
