Motivational Minute with Paige Lavoie #139: Don’t Be Mean!

It’s been a while, but we’re back now with Motivational Minute with Paige Lavoie #138 on Writer’s Atelier TV!

Hi. How’re you doing?

Us, too.

Right now, the general feeling in the air is, aaahhhhhh!

A good way to stop us from feeling quite so like that is to dive into our stories and start creating.

Writing can be a wonderful escape, but sometimes, when you’re stressed out or anxious, all of that bleeds into the rest of your life. For example, Paige thinks a lot of mean thoughts when she’s anxious. Maybe you can relate.

So, Paige has been making an effort to separate those mean thoughts from her productive thoughts.

You know what’s productive? “This paragraph sounds a little passive. Better change those to active verbs.”

You know what’s mean? “Man, this paragraph sucks. I suck at writing.”

It’s not easy to recognize and banish toxic thoughts, but we can and should practice recognizing them. If it’s not kind, constructive, or something you would say to a friend, it’s a mean thought, it should be disposed of.

Whether you make a writing affirmation Pinterest board like Paige, or physically write down and tear up the bad thoughts—whatever you need to do to push those thoughts away, do it. And you can do it!

Happy writing!
