Motivational Minute with Paige Lavoie #110: Questions For Your Character

Paige Lavoie us to ask our characters questions in Motivational Minute #110 on Writer’s Atelier TV!

If you’re feeling stuck while writing your NaNoWriMo project, Paige wants to ask you, “What’s going on with your main character? And not just what’s going on right then in the story, but what’s their deal, y’know?”

And she’s got plenty of other questions! What’s their favorite color? Which restaurant do they think has the best free bread? Do they have a favorite holiday memory? What kind of holidays do they celebrate? Did they ever break a bone as a kid—and if they did have to go to the emergency room, what happened there? Do they have a favorite and least favorite food? When they’re at a coffee shop, what do they order? Do they believe in ghosts? Did they ever go to a carnival growing up, and if so, what’re their opinions on carnival rides?

Be curious about your character! Never stop asking them interesting and uninteresting questions about them. It’s always great to explore what they’re about and learn little snippets about their past. If you do, you’re sure to find inspiration for your story.

Happy writing!
