Paige Lavoie is back this week with Motivational Minute #40! Today, Paige is letting writers know that it’s okay to ask for help. Don’t be afraid to call on your writer friends!
We do much of our writing by ourselves and to be honest, it can be a little isolating. Many of us hold our stories very close to our hearts. And why wouldn’t we? We’ve spent countless hours working on them and getting to know our characters. When it’s time to finally let other people in, it can be the most terrifying thing in the world. You might be left wondering “What if my beta readers don’t connect with my characters?” Or, “What if all my writer friends are too busy to read over my query letter?” Or, “What if my story just isn’t good?”
Most of the time we are plagued with these thoughts that are not only unhelpful, but they’re also really unhealthy. It’s easier said than done, but remember to put yourself out there, especially in your writing communities. The chances are, the people you’re asking for help have been in the exact same situation as you are currently in. Remember to lean on each other and help each other out when you can. Take a deep breath and don’t be scared to ask for help!
Keep filling the world with your stories and happy writing!
